Wagner's Tristan und Isolde is arguably the composer's greatest work and is considered by many to be one of the finest opera's ever written. Written between 1857 and 1859, the opera follows the basic plot of the legend, although Wagner made sure to remove any unnecessary incidents in order to ensure a swift pace.
